The Acreage is a sprawling rural residential community north and west of Royal Palm Beach consisting of more than 17,000 lots each about 1.25 acres. The Acreage/Loxahatchee area is governed by the Indian Trail Improvement District, which maintains 500 miles of canals, provides roads and drainage services, and operates a network of nine parks, including the 40-acre Acreage Community Park and the seven-acre Hamlin Equestrian Park. The Indian Trail Improvement District Board of Supervisors is made up of five popularly elected supervisors who in turn hire a district manager to run day-to-day affairs.
